Alien Games

There has always been an interest in the Alien (and Predator) character, as these many and varied games platforms demonstrate.

Aliens [Electric Dreams] - C64
Aliens [Activision] - C64
Aliens - Arcade
Alien3 - C64, Amiga, NES, Game Gear, Genesis, SNES
Alien3: The Gun - Arcade
Aliens vs Predator - SNES
Aliens vs Predator - Jaguar
Aliens vs Predator - Arcade
Aliens vs Predator - PC
Aliens vs Predator 2 - PC
Aliens vs Predator 2: Primal Hunt - PC
Aliens vs Predator: Extinction - XBox, PS2
Aliens vs Predator - Mobile Phone

Aliens     C64
by Electric Dreams - 1986

This game was great for its time (much like all older games systems). Follows the movie quite closely. Piloting the Dropship, rescuing Newt and the cool Power Loader battle is superb.... The graphics and sound are quite good (for a C64 game that is!)

Aliens     C64
by Activision - 1986

This is the European version of the C64 game. Differing somewhat for the U.S version, you control the characters from the tactical operations bay. Some truly tense moments in this game... but most people who've played it agree it's very difficult to actually navigate properly.

Aliens     Arcade
by Konami - 1989

The original multi-player arcade game, which can be run using the Mame32 Arcade Emulator system. It has a 2 player mode some pick-up weapons (flamethrower, Power Loader) and lots of weird Alien creatures to shoot (many of them don't quite resemble their movie counterparts though). A good action game.

Alien3     C64, Amiga, NES, Game Gear, Genesis, SNES
By Acclaim/Probe - 1992

Firona, the prison planet, is Alien infected and Ripley must complete missions such as welding doors, rescuing prisoners (from aliens) and killing Alien Queens. Bears little resemblance to the movie but is still enjoyable. Excellent graphics & sound effects plus some cool revamped music taken directly from the movies.

The Megadrive version differs from the SNES game in gameplay. Rather than having missions this game has a level/arcade style structure. Fun but definitely not in the same league as the SNES version.

Alien Vs Predator     SNES

By Nintendo - 1993

When this side scrolling beat-em-up game came out it was not a great hit. The player took control of the Predator, who was hunting on the infested planet, VEGA 4. However it still managed to please the Alien and Predator fans, who were beginning to get quite a following.

Alien3 - The Gun     Arcade
By Sega - 1993

The second Aliens-based coin-op title, 'Alien 3: The Gun' was a first person shooter with cabinet mounted replica weapon(s). As with most Alien 3 adaptations, there was a host of xenomorphs to combat instead of the film's singular creature, and additional facehuggers and chestbursters also thrown into the onslaught.

The gun vibrated with a low hum when you pressed the trigger and was absolutely addictive.

Although it has been forgotten by nearly all but hardcore Aliens fans today, this was still a great blast for the time and well worth the asking price.

Alien Vs Predator     Jaguar
by Rebellion - 1994

This first-person game is a highlight of the 64-bit Atari Jaguar system. The player can play as a Colonial Marine who must eradicate his infested base and escape alive. He can also choose to play as the Predator and try to acquire the skull of the Queen Alien. Lastly, the player can be an Alien who must cocoon Colonial Marines, fight Predators, and strive to free the Queen Alien. Each character has its own items and characteristics.

This game was the first of the 1st person alien and predator shooters. you could choose to be an alien, marine or predator and you shot, hacked or decapitated your way to the exit. As the alien, you could impregnate people and that would be where you returned when (if) you died. as the marine you simply shot stuff, and as the predator your game was based on an honour system, with more points being awarded for ki'cti pa usage and so on. Apparently this was a great game but because the system was a flop, the game also suffered a terrible fate.

Alien Vs Predator     Arcade
by Capcom - 1994

The battle royale between two classic action movie bad guys spilled over onto arcade screens in 1994's Alien Vs. Predator, spreading Final Fight-like mayhem everywhere. A pair of Predators joined human Marines Major Dutch Schaefer and Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa on a quest to rid our planet of those long-headed, acid-spewing monsters from the Alien movies.

Up to three players could share the screen on Alien Vs. Predator, teaming up against the numberless Aliens that tried to destroy them. Like most side-scrolling fighting games, this one featured old-fashioned brawling, along with a smattering of special moves. But in addition to the traditional 'attack' and 'jump/charge' buttons, Alien Vs. Predator also gave its combatants auxiliary weapons, allowing them to blast away at the oncoming hordes.

Aliens Vs Predator     Mobile Phone

Platform: Mobile Phone
Publisher: 3DWG
Developer: SuperScape
Release Date: August 2004

Alien vs. Predator gives you front-row seats to a titanic battle between humans, aliens, and predators for control of a gigantic ziggurat somewhere in Antarctica. You play first as an intrepid human explorer who must rescue his companions from their cruel fate as hosts to alien young.

Secondly, you inhabit an alien's chitin as it roams the pyramid impregnating humans and growing into maturity. You spend the final sequence as a predator warrior hell-bent on ridding your sacred temple of human and insectoid vermin.

Each of these chapters features five playable levels, which are filled with ladders, platforms, power-ups, and plenty of the other two races to kill or avoid as necessary. The levels advance when you reach a certain race-dependent goal... rescued comrades for humans, deposited young for aliens, and skulls collected for predators, respectively.
